Favre shines in win over Packers

ethiopianreview.com | October 6th, 2009

The veteran, who turns 40 on 10 October, threw for 271 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Vikings to a 4-0 start to the season.

Favre, a Packers star for 16 seasons, also became the only quarter back to defeat all 32 NFL teams.

"I knew there was a lot riding on this game and it carried more weight," he said afterwards.

"I'm emotional, but I'm always emotional. One game good or bad does not define my career."

Favre threw a one-yard touchdown to Visanthe Shiancoe in the first quarter, a 14-yarder to Sidney Rice in the second, and gave Minnesota some breathing space with a 31-yard TD pass to Bernard Berrian in the third.

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers put up a valiant effort, throwing for 384 yards and two touchdowns to Jermichael Finley and Jordy Nelson.

Green Bay kicker Mason Crosby slotted a 31-yard field goal with just under a minute left to narrow the deficit to seven points but the Packers' onside kick was recovered by the Vikings.

Favre left Green Bay in March 2008 after cementing his status as an all-time NFL great.

However, he reversed his decision to retire five months later by signing with the New York Jets, but they failed to make the play-offs after going 9-7. – BBc
