June 11, 9:07 AM - Alert: Several CUD officials and members in Gonder have been arrested today. EPRDF troops are hunting down all CUD officials and candidates through out the Gonder region. Head of the CUD in Gonder, Ato Leul, is appealing to Ethiopians abroad to create worldwide awareness for their plight.
Yesterday, heavily armed troops savagely beaten students at the Fasilides High School or protested the savage murder of unarmed people. All schools in Gonder are now closed. The brutal actions by EPRDF in Gonder is intensifying.
June 11 - CUD Chairman Hailu Shawel and Executive Committee member Lidetu Ayalew have been placed under house arrest. Journalists who went to Hailu's home to check reports he was under house arrest were beaten by police using fists and clubs. AP
"I am not allowed to leave my residence, my wife and maid are not allowed to leave and no one is allowed to visit," said Hailu, chairman of the main opposition Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD). "I am virtually in prison." Reuters
Some taxis have started service today, but most are still on strike. Shops are still closed. Addis Ababa is being patrolled by tanks.
At Bahir Dar University, students are not allowed to leave the campus.

CUD put the following condition: the attack on unarmed civilians must stop; all those arrested must be released; the arrest and harassment of
opposition leaders must stop; and the murder of civilians by the security forces must be investigated and those responsible must be brought to justice.
