Aleqa Ayalew Tamiru, a prominent Ethiopian theologian and scholar, passed away on Sunday at his home in Addis Ababa. He was 83 years old.
Aleqa Ayalew was an icon of the Ethiopian Orthodox church who was engaged in a running battle with Aba Gebre-Medhin (formerly Aba Paulos) over fundamental teachings of the Church. He had served as chairman of YeLiqawnt Gubae (council of scholars) until he was forced out by Aba Gebre-Medhin, the gun-totting illegitimate patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
The following is a report from Addis Ababa:
አለቃ አያሌው ታምሩ ከዚህ አለም በሞት ተለዩ
አለቃ አያሌው በአራት አመታቸው በምስራቅ ጎጃም ዞን ዲማ ጊዮርጊስ ቤ/ክርስቲያን የቤተክህነት ትምህርት የጀመሩ ሲሆን በእድሜ ዘመናቸው ቤተ ክህነትን ሲያገለግሉ የነበሩና በኋላም የሊቃውንት ጉባኤ ሰብሳቢ በነበሩበት ወቅት በ1988 ዓ.ም ከአባ ገ/መድህን (የቀድሞው አቡነ ጳውሎስ) ጋር ቤተክርስቲያኒቱን በሚመለከት ጠንካራ የሃሳብ ልዩነት በመፈጠሩ ወጥተዋል፡፡ ሊቀጠበብት አያሌው ወያኔ በጠመንጃ ሃይል ካስቀመጣቸው ጳጳስ ከአባ ገ/መድህን ጋር ያለመግባባቶች የነበራቸው እንደነበር ወዳጆቻቸው ሲናገሩ በተለይ በ1988 ያለመግባባታቸው ጎልተው መተው ነበር ይላሉ፡፡ ልዩነቶቻቸውም የቅዱስ ሲኖዶስ ተጠሪነቱ ለፓትሪያርኩ ይሁን በሚል አባ ገ/መድህን ሲወስኑ አለቃ አያሌው በበኩላቸው ቅዱስ ሲኖዶስ መመራት ያለበት በመንፈስ ቅዱስ ነው፡፡ ጰጳሳቱ በእኩል ተቀምጠው በመግባባት በእኩልነት ነው ሊወስኑ የሚገባቸው በቅዱስ ሲናዶስ ማንም የበላይ ሊሆን አይገባም፡፡ ኃይማኖቱም የሚያዘው ይህንኑ ነው በማለት ሲከራከሩ እንደነበር ለጉዳዩ ቅርበት ያላቸው ገልፀውልናል፡፡
በተጨማሪም ተጠሪነቱ ለፓትሪያርኩ ተደርጎ የነበረው ቅዱስ ሲኖዶስ “የኢትዮጵ እምነት ስርዓት አምልኮና የውጭ ግንኙነት” በሚል በእንግሊዝኛና በአማርኛ ያሳተመው መጽሃፍ “ክብር ድንግል ማርያምን የሚነካና ሚስጥረ ስላሴን የሚያፋልስ አንቀጽ አለበት” በማለት አለቃ አያሌው ተቃውመትም ሰላማዊ ሰልፍ ተወጥቶበትም ነበር፡፡በዚህ መፅሃፍ ላይ የአለቃ አያሌው ሌላው ልዩነት በወቅቱ እሳቸው የሊቃውንቱ ጉባኤ ሰብሳቢ የነበሩ በመሆናቸው መፅሃፉ የወጣው በሊቃውንቱ ሳይታይ በፓትሪያርኩ ትዕዛዝ ነው የሚልም እንደነበር የሚያስታውሱ ይናገራሉ፡፡ሊቀጠበብት አያሌው ታምሩ ከፆም ብዛት ከፍተኛ የአንጀት ድርቀት ህመም የነበረባቸው ሲሆን ፕሮፌሰር አስራት ወ/የስ ከዚህ አለም በሞት ከመለየታቸው በፊት ሁለት ጊዜ ቀዶጥገና አድርገውላቸዋል፡፡ በተጨማሪም በሌላ ሃኪም ለሶስተኛ ጊዜ ቀዶ ጥገና ተደርጎላቸው እንደነበር የቅርብ ወዳጆቻቸው ይናገራሉ፡፡በተለይ ከፕሮፌሰር አስራት ወ/የስ ጋር ጠንከር ያለ ወዳጅነት እንደነበራቸው በቅርብ የሚያውቋቸው ያስታውሳሉ፡፡አለቃ አያሌው መጋቢት 23/1916 ዓ/ም ተወልደው በ1920 ዓ.ም የቤተክህነት ትምህርት መማር የጀመሩ ሲሆን በህፃንነታቸው በአካባቢያቸው በገባው የፈንጣጣ ወረርሽኝ ለዓይነ ስውርነት ተዳርገዋል፡፡በብፁእ ቅዱስ ፓትሪያርክ ዘኢትዮጵያ በአቡነ ባስሊዮስ ግዜ ሊቀጠበብት አያሌው በአዲስ አበባ ከተማ በተለምዶ ተ/ኃይማኖት እየተባለ በሚጠራው አካባቢ የሚገኘው የደብረ አማን ፃዲቁ አቡነ ተክለ ሃይማኖት ቤ/ክርስቲያን አስተዳዳሪ ሆነው ሰርተዋል፡፡አለቃ አያሌው "የኢትዮጵያ እምነት በሶስቱ ህግጋት"፣ "መች ተለመና ከተኩላ ዝምድና"፣ "የፅድቅር፣ ምልጃ፣ ዕርቅና ሰላም"፣ "መልዕክተ መንፈስ ቅዱስ፣ ወላዲት አምላክ ኢትዮጵያ፣" "አባትና መሠረት" እና "የኑሮ መሠረት ለህፃናት" የሚሉ መፅሃፍቶችን ፅፈዋል፡፡አለቃ አያሌው የ12 ልጆች አባት ሲሆኑ የአብዛኞቹ ልጆቻቸው ኑሮ ከኢትዮጵያ ውጪ እንደሆነ ለማወቅ ተችሏል፡፡
እግዚአብ ሄር ነፍሳቸውን ይማር::

አለቃ አያሌው ታምሩ የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶስ ተዋህዶ ቤተ ክርስትያን ሊቀ ሊቃውንት ነበሩ፤በየትኛውም የአገራችንን ታላቅነትና የህዝቡን አርቆ አስተዋይነት በመመስከር ለባዕዳን እንዳንጎበድድ ከመናገር ያልታውቁ ታላቅ ሰው ነበሩ።
እግዚአብሄር አምላክ ነፍሳቸውን በእነ አብረህም፤በነይስሃቅ ጋር ያኑርልን።ለቤተሰባቸው መፅናናትን እንዲሰጥልን ጸሎታችን ነው።

On this occasion I would like to comment that I have not seen the Ethiopian Orthodox condemning the research on Evolution, like Lucy which is against the creator God and use of Birth control and mass killing.
These days I am confused whether to follow this religion. The Ethiopian orthodox is investing in business by converting grave yards in to shops, where our forefathers laid in peace. In Ethiopia we do not have burial place. Soon they will start burning our body like Hindu. It is only collecting money from the people. People worship saints like St Gabriel and St Michael more than God or Jesus what is happening! Oh Aba Pawlos!

As a young boy my parents took me to Alequa Ayalew house. I was Impressed to witness a man who lost his vision since childhood but a VISIONARY MAN who stood for true Orthodox Christianity and the unity of Ethiopia.
Aleqa Ayalew never compromised his faith , he was never a friend of the Derg regime or the Woyane. He stood his grounds on Orthodox Christianity principle for the poor and the one Ethiopian.
I thanks God for giving Ethiopian such a great man while he was alive , I am also sad to see our country lost a great man that can not replaced for generations to come.

Aleka Ayalew was the best church scholar that Ethiopia has ever had in this century.
Although he was fired from church service by the illegal patriarch, he managed to win the heart and mind of so many christians in Addis Ababa.
His death is beneficial only to the illegal patriarch who annointed himself to have been patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.

Aleqa Ayalew went to a better place of peace and worship while we lost such inspiring, truthful and loyal to church Father. After looking into the spilit of Church fathers, mainly due to power and of no spiritual substance (Shameful Act) on the eve of the millenium and predicting the worst on the days of the millenium, it seemed that Aleqa Ayalew prayed for God to take him rather than seeing the worst to come.
Let God comfort all Aleqa's family, all members of Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Also we pray for God to give us a good preacher that will keep the integrity of the Church and lead us to the right way.

Aleqa Ayalew was one of the prominent Ethiopian Church Scholar. Everyone should be cognizant that the death of Liqe Liqawunt signifies the wrath of God is continuining in Ethiopia.

I felt sad learning the death of our father,Aleqa Ayalew Tamiru. I have learnt so many things from him and feel sad because I never got a second chance of seeing him again because of my exile life. I remember one thing which he mentioned in one of the interviews about Pagume the thirteenth month of our calander. he said that it will be 7 every 600 years. and later when I learned some courses in asrtonomy, it was so fantastic. LET GOD REST YOUR SOUL IN THE PALM OF ABRAHAM.

What a loss!! A good father, a good teacher and leader. Who says Alequa was blind, he was not. He was rather exceptionally bright in his heart, mind and soul. Lets his genuine inspiration, nationalistic attitude, his untwisted persistent stand against evils will remain impregnated in all Ethiopian citizens for ever and ever. AMEN!!!
