Spread of malaria shows dramatic decline in southern Eritrea
Mendefera – The spread of malaria infection in Southern region has shown dramatic decline thanks to the coordinated efforts made on the part of the Ministry of Health, the region administration and the general public, according to Mr. Abraha Woldeslasie, head of malaria control department in the region.
Noting that a number of campaigns focusing on ways of controlling malaria disease have been offered to over 130,000 people, he pointed out that medicated mosquito nets have been distributed to about 30,000 people free of charge, while over 270 mosquito nets have been re-medicated and distributed to the inhabitants.
Mr. Abraha further indicated that mosquito breeding spots have been cover up with silt through sanitation campaign in which more than 6,000 people took part. He also added that there are 800 health agents in the region and that continued skill upgrading courses are being offered to them.
No death has been reported in the region as a result of malaria infection over the last 3 years, according to reports.
