Public meeting in Washington DC with Kinijit leaders

September 16th, 2007  |  50 Comments

12:40 PM EST
The shaleqa group held a meeting last night and urged Ato Hailu Shawel not to participate in today's Kinijit rally in Washington DC. The shaleqa group was divided on this issue. The one side led by Dr Taye was bitterly opposed to Ato Hailu joining his delegation today. The other side led by Ato Solomon Bekele urged Ato Hailu that he must join his colleagues and resume his leadership role of the delegation. A vote was taken and the Taye side prevailed. It is not clear now whether Ato Hailu will be at today's meeting, but he has summoned Kinijit North America chapters chairman Aklog Lemeneh for a discussion. Ato Aklog and a group of elders are right now talking with Ato Hailu.
