Mystery over Michael Jackson’s final resting place
Los Angeles — NEW details of Michael Jackson’s burial have emerged, casting doubts on the deceased singer’s final resting place.
On Tuesday, initial reports had stated that the singer’s body would be buried at Los Angeles’ Forest Lawn cemetery immediately after the memorial service at Staples Centre.
Reports on Wednesday, however, said after tearful final tributes to Michael Jackson from his children and friends, the gold coffin bearing Jackson’s body was not spotted leaving the center, sparking off speculation about the star’s final burial site.
Many believe Jackson’s body was taken to a secret location.
Others think the family took an empty casket for the memorial after burying Jackson secretly.
Jackson’s family has declined to comment on the matter.
Local media reported that the coffin was not going back to the Hollywood Hills mortuary.
Reports by The Sun newspaper said the family was pressing ahead with plans to finally lay the star to rest at his Neverland Ranch, in Santa Barbara, California.
Plans to bury the star at Neverland were initially halted by California State and Santa Barbara County laws, which ban burials outside of graveyards without special permission.
