Addis Ababa – The National Electorate Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) said it is distributing draft regulation among political parties. The regulation is on financing of the parties.

The board has also prepared formula for distribution of financial support to the parties.

Board Chairperson, Professor Merga Bekana told ENA on Wednesday that the regulation has been handed out to the parties to enable the parties comment on it.

The board called on the parties to discuss on the regulation on the coming Friday.

According to the chairperson, the regulation has been drafted in accordance with the national constitution and the amended proclamation of political parties taking in to account experiences of more than 100 countries.

Professor Merga said if there are parties that have not yet received the draft regulation, they can take from the office of the board.

The board has also readied formula on ways of distributing financial support to the parties. Members of the board discuss on the formula today.

Currently 91 legal political parties are operating in the country. Some 25 of them are national and the remaining regional parties, according to information obtained from the board.
