Ukraine donates 1,000 metric tons wheat to Ethiopia
Addis Ababa –The Government of Ukraine on Tuesday donated 1,000 metric tons of wheat, valued at 580,000 USD, to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) for its efforts to feed people in Ethiopia in need of emergency relief assistance.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony held in Adama, WFP Ethiopia Country Director, Mohammed Diab, said the donation is very timely as WFP’s relief program is badly stretched at the moment.
“We also hope it is the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership with the Ukrainian people,” he added.
Head of Ukrainian Delegation, Ruslan Biloshytskyi, on his part said that the donation will be a good step for the cooperation between the Ukrainian Government and WFP to fight hunger all over the world.
Disaster Management and Food Security Sector Coordinator with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Tadesse Bekele, said the donation would be distributed to the targeted beneficiaries directly.
UN Resident Coordinator, Fidele Sarassoro, said that the donation is a tribute to the excellent cooperation between the Ukraine Government and the United Nation (UN).
He further said the Ukrainian Government will come forward with additional support to Ethiopia.
After the handing over ceremony, the delegation visited WFP-supported land rehabilitation operations in and around Adama town
