Ethiopia: Humera Int’l Airport inaugurated

Addis Ababa – An international airport constructed in Humera town at a cost of over 182 million birr was officially inaugurated on Sunday.

The Humera International Airport, situated in northwest Ethiopia was official opened for flight after three years of construction.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Transport and Communication State Minister, Diriba Kuma said the airport would help Ethiopian to get its agricultural products from the area to international markets as fast as possible.

The state minister said the construction of the airport was aimed at helping the agriculture sector in the region where maize, sesame and other oilseeds have widely been produced.

According to the state minister, the airport would also help Ethiopia to facilitate its communication with border countries in the area.

The construction was carried out by the Ethiopian Airports Enterprise, a government institution responsible for construction and administration of airports across Ethiopia.

Enterprise General Manager, Shiferaw Alemu said on the event that the government covered the construction fund.

The manager said the airport has been built with modern runway to land present-day huge aircrafts including antonove 124.

According to the manager, a three kilometer long and 45 meter wide runway has been constructed.

Some investors and residents of the town expressed their belief that the airport would speed up the growth of the town and the trade interaction.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior government officials including board chairperson of the enterprise, Energy and Mine Minister, Alemayehu Tegenu.

    Its wonderful to hear this kind of development news from ethiopia,there is some progress finally taking off.

    Could some one tell me the ICAO /IATA ID for this new airport.
