This article reeks of ignorance. There isn't one part that is not based on pure speculation.

FACT 1: Ubuntu has nothing to do with Chrome OS. It won't even be able to apt-get anything! I suppose "Ubuntu" was used in this article because it's the new word for "Linux"? What a cheap shot.

FACT 2: Chrome OS is an internet OS and there are other internet OSes out there today (we're just in that era of the web right now). What Google has that the others don't is the positioning and reputation to actually pull this off and make it a successful product.

FACT 3: Apple does not intend to challenge the Windows OS, and neither does Google. Apple has done well with what they intended to do: give users the best computer experience they can have. Similarly, Google has done well with what they intended to do: make information easily accessible and useful. Over time these companies cross eachother's intentions and must battle small grounds, but overall they remain happy and profitable.
Chrome OS will do well because it is bringing the internet to the desktop (the simplest desktop imaginable) and nobody knows the internet better than Google.

You may remember how Corel created a new operating system, which ran with Linux. It looked so much like windows it was unreal. Anyone who would have used that OS could have been easily fooled into thinking they were using MS OS.

The reason it was good was because it 'looked' like MS. Why it disappeared I do not know. So if Google makes the same front end it will fool most users into thinking they are using MS OS.

It it's current form Linux will never succeed because it is different, to much for the likes of most users.

I hope that Google OS makes it mainstream soon. Just remember that IBM once ruled with DOS and finally went to the wall.
