Korea to establish solar energy generating facilities in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa – The Ethiopian Office of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) said it is conducting studies on feasibility of establishing photovoltaic generating facilities in Addis Ababa and Arsi zone as a pilot project.

KOICA Chief Representative, Dr. David InYeup and KOICA’s solar expert team yesterday held discussion with Ethiopian Minister of Mines and Energy, Alemayehu Tegenu on ways of securing clean energy sources in Ethiopia.

Alemayehu appreciated KOICA’s intention of solar energy program in Ethiopia and promised to provide all assistances towards successful implementation of the photovoltaic projects.

He further said that Ethiopia, known as a country of 13 months’ of sunshine, has a great potential of producing solar energy.

KOICA’s is actively working on the enhancement of health and medical service in Ethiopia through establishing health training facilities and dispatching voluntary Korean doctors to various government health facilities.
