The Candlelight Vigil was held to commemorate Birtukan Mideksa, Teddy Afro and other Political prisoners. Many hundreds of DC candlelight vigils gathered outside the White House calling for an end to the brutal dictator Meles Zenawi regime.

For 18 years, the Woyane government has continuously ignored the principles of its own Constitution, while jailing untold numbers of political prisoners. There are thousands of political prisoners suffering in the hands of brutal dictator Meles Zenawi. Civilians who simply exercised their lawful rights of freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, and freedom of expression have all been arrested and jailed.
