Athlete Solomon wins Hamburg Marathon

Addis Ababa (ENA) – Ethiopian athlete Solomon Tside won the Hamburg Marathon on Sunday while his fellow countrywoman, Tigist Sheni took second in the women’s.

Charles Ngolepus of Kenya finished second in the men’s race in 2:13:25 and a Spanish runner Alessandra Aguilar captured the women’s race in 2:29.01, according to report by Associated Press.

The report said Solomon covered the distance in 2 hours, 11 minutes, 47 seconds, nearly five minutes off the course record.

Tigist clocked the race 2:34:01, the report added.

Solomon and the Kenyan ran together until about two kilometers before the finish, when the Ethiopian [Solomon] surged ahead.

“The course suited me,” said Solomon, who improved on his previous personal best of 2:13:23.
