Woman cleaning out her garage finds live pipe bomb
PORTLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A woman made an explosive discovery while cleaning out her garage: a live pipe bomb. State police said the woman drove the handmade explosive about 10 miles to the Ionia state police post Wednesday where police defused it. The bomb was made from hand grenade parts.
Police believe the bomb was left in the home by a previous homeowner. The woman’s family has lived in the house for 11 years.
No one was injured and no charges have been filed.
The bomb squad said people discovering suspicious devices or potential explosives should first call law enforcement and avoid handling the devices.
