Bear wanders into path of car
(Marlboro Twp) – It’s a first for northeast Ohio…a crash involving a car and a bear.
Around 9:45 Wednesday night, a 17-year-old male was driving eastbound on Beeson Street just west of Reeder Avenue in Stark County’s Marlboro Township. The black bear darted in front of his 2000 Pontiac Grand Am.
According to Lt. Eric Sheppard of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Canton Post, The bear weighed about 250 pounds. The bear was killed in the collision. The driver was not hurt.
The Marlboro Township Police Department has been getting calls about a black bear in the area since Tuesday.
Sheppard says there have been reports of bear/vehicle crashes in sourthern Ohio, but this is the first reported in our region.
The bear’s remains were released to an officer of the Ohio Division of Wildlife.
