Up in a tree: Methuen woman charged with drunken driving

Desta Bishu | August 22nd, 2009

HAVERHILL — A Methuen woman, whose car ended up tilted against a tree off the southbound lane of Interstate 495, asked, “What happened?” when she climbed out of the vehicle.

The woman, Adrienne Cohn, 40, of 39 Arnold St., was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after the Tuesday night accident, state police said.

Witnesses told police her 2004 Honda Civic went off the highway just south of the Whittier flats near a highway crossover used by police about 7 p.m., and came to rest against trees.

The uninjured Cohn climbed out of her car and asked, “What happened?” a witness said. She had to climb through limbs midway up the tree.

“The car went well off the road,” said state police Sgt. Frank Puopolo of the Newbury barracks.

He said Cohn was alone in the car.

Trooper Shane Pierce is investigating the crash, Puopolo said.
