People With Illegal Chickens As Pets Form ‘CLUCK’
Campaign For Legalization Of Urban Chicken Keeping Takes Wing.
Some Sacramento families are hiding illegal pets; they’re chickens. But, now there’s a growing group looking to change the law.
It’s a different kind of chicken and egg debate.
“They’re really easy to deal with,” says Dave Crouch.
Crouch is no chicken, this Sacramento scofflaw goes on camera knowing his pets could be plucked if someone started hemming and hawing about the hens.
“We honestly didn’t know we were breaking the law until after we had them,” says Crouch.
By then it was too late. They already had name picked out for the pets: Bolina, Petunia, Nugget and Sweet Cheeks.
Dave says they barely make a peep.
“I absolutely invite you to hang around – we’ll open up the coop and let them run around,” says Crouch.

The hens fly the coop and rule the backyard roost. And how about this for earning their keep? Fresh eggs for the family and the chickens eat the backyard flies.
And that’s where Cluck comes in.
“It’s the campaign for the legalization of urban chicken keeping,” Crouch explains.
The group is bringing together lawbreakers like Crouch, and there are a lot of them.
The group numbers in Cluck have tripled in the few weeks, and they’re hatching a plan to the change the law and free everyone from the chicken coop closet.
