Madden: “I never believed in the Madden Curse”

NFL guru John Madden has told of how he has never believed in the Madden curse – because he was never injured after 11 years on the cover.

He was asked of the curse in this interview and responded:

“No, I never believed in that. For 11 years, I was on the cover. I was never injured. And talking to players, they don’t believe in it either. Players get injured. That’s part of the game.”

The aforementioned “curse”, for those who somehow don’t know, involves NFL players who feature as ‘cover stars’  - on the game’s box art - receiving lengthy injuries, including the likes of Shaun Alexander and Vince Young.

The interview consists of much video game talk, and he briefly explained how Madden began:

“When Trip Hawkins and I started, there were no video games. He was going to make a game you could play on the computer. The reason I joined him was that I wanted to make something that could teach football. Then it took us years to get to that point.”

Madden 2010 arrived last week to great reviews, as always.

The curse is ridiculous. Most NFL players do get hurt if they are or are not on the cover.
