Gov. Ed Rendell believes Harley-Davidson narrowed its list of possible relocation sites from four to two, the governor told reporters at a press conference in Harrisburg on Monday, according to a spokesman.

“We’ve been in constant communication with Harley and the union. That’s just our take on the situation as it stands now,” said the governor’s spokesman, Michael Smith.

However, as of Tuesday evening, the company had not made a decision regarding its four possible relocation sites, said Bob Klein, a spokesman for Harley-Davidson.

“We are continuing to work through the asses´ ment of the possible sites,” he said. “Our assesment is still ongoing, but we are still looking at how to make the York (plant) competitive and sustainable over the long term.”

Klein said the company plans to release more in´ formation about its four possible relocation sites at a later date.

Harley-Davidson is analyzing how to make its York County operations cost-effective, the company said in May, and, if that effort fails, where to relocate.

It visited Shelbyville, Ky., Murfreesboro, Tenn., Shelbyville, Ind. and Kansas City, Mo., last week.
