Ethiopia: Culture , information affairs standing committee visits historical sites in Bale Zone
Bale Zone, Goba (ENA) — A team of members of culture and information affairs standing committee of the House of Peoples’ Representatives visited historical sites and heritages in Bale Zone, Oromia State.
The team visited the over 900 year old Dire Sheik Hussein Mosque, Sof Omar Cave and Bale Mountains National Park.
The team held discussion with zonal and woreda administration officials, the public, elders and officials of the park on ways to preserve heritages and expansion of infrastructure development, among others.
The elders and officials of the administrations said lack of standard hotels and lodges is constrained tourism development in the area.
Officials of the park on their parts said number of tourists visiting the park has been increasing from time to time.
Zonal chief, Abdu Hassan also said awareness raising education on preservation of heritages is being provided to the public with a view to preserving the heritages.
Abdu said activities aimed at promoting tourism alternatives are underway to attract investors to the areas.
Team leader, Mathewos Deka said the public and the administration have been undertaking encouraging activities to preserve the heritages.
The standing committee will discuss with the ministry of culture and tourism to find solution to the problems, he said.
