Ethiopia: Ministry works with foreign institutions to train more teachers of higher education
Addis Ababa, (ENA) – The Ministry of Education (MoE) said it is working in collaboration with foreign institutions to curb the shortage of teachers in higher educational institution in Ethiopia.
In its nine month report, the ministry said it has been working with the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIT Delhi) and University of South Africa (UNISA) to educate over 1000 teachers in MA in various fields of study.
According to the report, the ministry devised a five-year strategic plan and set a council to address shortage of teachers in higher educational institutions.
Preparations have already been made to train 110 teachers in the Indian Institute of Information Technology in electrical and mechanical engineering MA programs.
The ministry is also undertaking activities to train over 900 students in PHD and MA program in collaboration with the University of South Africa (UNISA).
It has also undertaking activities to train 148 university lecturers in foreign institutions in some postgraduate programs which are not been given in domestic institutions, the ministry said.
