World Cup arrives in Ethiopia
ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA — The World Cup arrived today in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa.
The World Cup is touring 53 African nations before the commencement of the 2010 World Cup Tournament next year in South Africa. Ethiopia is the 36th destination.
Ethiopia’s National World Cup Reception Committee members told a press conference that the Cup would stay in Ethiopia for three days during which it would be displayed at the National Palace. The public will also have the chance to great the Cup either at Addis Ababa stadium or the Millennium hall, they added.
The committee noted that the arrival of the Cup carries special meaning to Ethiopia and its people as the country is one of the three founders of the Confederation of African Football (the others being Egypt and Sudan).
World renown Somali-born Canadian hip hop artist K’naan also arrives here escorting the Cup. He is expected to present the music concert at the Millennium Hall, of which one of his songs is adopted to be the theme of the upcoming World Cup.
