Hawasa, (WIC) – The health bureau of the SNNPState said that encouraging results have been achieved in curbing HIV/AIDS pandemic by mainstreaming the prevention activities.
HIV/AIDS division head, Amarech Agidew told WIC that encouraging results have been achieved in curbing the HIV/AIDS pandemic by mainstreaming the prevention activities over the last three years in SNNP state.
She indicated that the government is providing care and support for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). Both governmental and non-governmental organizations should mainstream the HIV/AIDS prevention activities, he added.
Apart from their regular duties the sector offices in the state have mainstreamed the HIV/AIDS prevention activities, she said, adding that employees of the offices are contributing two per cent of their salaries for the AIDS fund established to support prevention activities.
Capacity building, education, youth and sports, women’s affairs bureaus of the state are effectively supporting the children and parents who are living with HIV/AIDS.
The stigma and discrimination against the PLWHA in the state is decreasing since the launching of the mainstreaming activities.
Efforts are also being made to multiply the best practice of government offices in non-governmental organizations, he concluded.
