Ethiopia: Nation endeavoring to ensure rights, welfare of children: Girma
Addis Ababa, (ENA) – President Girma Woldegiorgis said the Ethiopian government has given special attention to realizing children’s right to survival and development.
The 6th African Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect with particular focus on Early Childhood Development and Education kicked off here on Monday at ECA Conference Center.
While addressing the confrence through his representative Grima said Ethiopia as a signatory to the convention on the Right of the Child and the African Charter on the Right and Welfare of the Child, was made it part of the constitution, which is the supreme law of the land.
Hence, he said the action has shown nation’s attention to translating the convention on the Rights of Child (CRC) into action.
However, Girma said in all actions concerning children undertaken by the different stakeholders, the primary consideration should be the best interest of the child.
Thus, the president said collaborative efforts of various stakeholders at different level is central.
The president underscored that family focused programs should be designed so as to build the capacity of families to provide adequate care for children.
He said the conference will create a good opportunity for researchers and practitioners to share their experience on early childhood care protection and education, which will contribute to design child friendly program and strategies.
African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPCAN) regional office and collaborating organizations organized the three day conference.
