Addis Ababa,Ethiopia, (APA) — Ethiopia hosts on Monday the 6th African Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect with particular focus on Early Childhood Development and Education.

The conference, being held for two days in Addis Ababa aims at discussing child right related issues in the continent where the problem of child rights did not get much concern by the concerned bodies.

While addressing the conference through his representative, Ethiopian president Girma Woldegiorgisse said Ethiopia as a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, was made it part of the constitution, which is the supreme law of the land.

“The action has shown the nation’s attention to translating the convention on the Rights of Child (CRC) into action,” said Girma.

He said the conference will create a good opportunity for researchers and practitioners to share their experiences on early childhood care protection and education, which will contribute to design child friendly program and strategies.

African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPCAN) regional office and collaborating organizations organized the three day conference.

The organizers indicated that Africa is a continent where a lot still remains to be done with regard to child rights.

Millions of children are said to be in desperate condition despite efforts by the international community to keep their rights.
