(APA) – Ethiopia is observing on Tuesday the 68th anniversary of its victory over the Italian invaders who attempted to colonize the country 68 years ago.
The day is being observed colorfully with various activities, especially in the capital Addis Ababa.
Thousands of people, government officials and patriots attended the national celebrations at the National Victory Monument located in the Arat Kilo area of Addis Ababa, home to around 5 million people.
The day remembers the victory, which the Ethiopians did against the Italian invaders who attempted to colonize Ethiopia 40 years of their first defeat.
Ethiopian President Girma Woldegiorgis urged the youth to repeat in the development arena the victory gained by the Ethiopian patriots against the foreign aggressors.
After laying a wreath at the foot of the monument, the President, who is also the patron of the Ethiopian Patriots Association, said the legendary victory of the patriots of Ethiopia over the Italian invaders should be taken as an example for the current generation to fight poverty.

The President noted that the young generation needed to struggle to extricate the nation from grinding poverty.
He said all the citizens should join hands for the realization of the nation’s vision of making Ethiopia a middle income economy.
The mayor of Addis Ababa Kuma Demkissa on his part said the gallant Ethiopian patriots made proud not only Ethiopians but also all other Africans and black people everywhere.
The mayor said the heroic deed of citizens that make Ethiopia as a symbol of freedom would remain in the memory of the African people.
The president of the Ethiopian Patriots Association, Astatke Abate said the ancient patriots sacrificed to defend the sovereignty of the nation.
Therefore he indicated that the current generation should be duty bound to safeguard the territorial integrity of the country.
