Our names, they are treasures given to us by our parents as they wished for us nothing more than unending happiness and a million joys to fill in our hearts::

A lot of shady things are done in our names, be yena sem. I can count a thousand ways and tell a million instances where some in our community have taken advantage of our good names to profit and line their pockets. This is the way of the world, in too many corners of Addis and too many blocks of America, Habesha people with good names sully our names be yena sem. I would like to think that the whole world is full of this virus of self-loathing where one neighbor visits upon his neighbor horror and inflicts the deepest unkind acts. Now I understand when Ethiopians everywhere keep saying “Be Yena Sem”.

But today I will change it up a bit. I will…CONTINUED
