Ethiopia: Bureau, company sign potash mining agreement

Semera — Mines and Energy Bureau of Afar State and Potash Mining, an Indian Company signed an agreement to enable the latter mine potash in various localities of state.

Earth Science expert with the office, Jemal Ibrahim told ENA on Thursday that the licensee has an exclusive right for mining potash in the state for the coming 20 years.

More than 106 million metric tons of potash is available in the northern part of the region.

The company would produce over one million metric tons of potash annually, he said.

Jemal said South African, Canadian and Israeli companies have received licenses to conduct researches aiming at exploring other minerals in the area.
