Ethiopia: Mekele University implementing 42m birr worth projects financed by Belgium University
Addis Ababa — Mekele University has announced a range of academic and extramural activities with an over 42 million Birr financing secured from the Belgium University. It has also publicised a six-year agreement with the selfsame university on all-rounded cooperation.
University program acting manager and coordinator Dr. Kassa Amare told ENA the university sees as vital the forging of cooperation with local and overseas universities so as to bring to success the efforts aimed at upscaling the workings and services of the university.
Mekele University as per the six-year cooperation it has concluded wit the Belgium University would make good use of the financing for research works, capacity building, library upgrading and other related activities, he indicated.
Through a recent research, apple varieties proved to yeild good were distributed among farmers, he said.
The university’s library has been furnished with state of the art implements, he said.
Under the capacity building program, 16 of the university’s instructors are pursuing their Phd. at the Belgium University, which undertakes also to provide short-term trainings.
Established in 1992 E.C., Mekele University currently enrolls more than 12,000 students pursuing their courses at four campuses.
