Zambia’s ministry of health said Friday that a man suspected with swine flu has tested negative for the disease, meaning the southern African country has had no cases of the virus.

Health ministry spokesman Kamoto Mbewe told AFP that the man who had been quarantined Tuesday in a Ndola hospital in the Cobberbelt region has since left Zambia for South Africa.

“I can confirm that the tests were conducted and complete. They have come out negative of swine flu,” Mbewe said.

The latest WHO figures show 2,371 cases of influenza A(H1N1) infections have been reported by 24 countries — before Brazil and Argentina confirmed their first cases later Thursday bringing the total to 26. Forty-six people have died; 44 of them in Mexico and two in the United States.
