Ethiopia: Harar potable water project nearing completion

Harar — The Harari state water and sewerage authority announced that sinking of potable water boreholes and installation of water pipelines launched with 340 million birr to curb shortage of potable water in Harar town is nearing completion.

Speaking at a forum organized by Reshid Citrus International Company to promote new water treatment chemical, plan and public relations head with the authority, Bushra Mohammed said about 88 percent of work on the construction of the water project has already been finalized. Accordingly, the potable water project is expected to be completed and go operational at the end of the current year, he added. Installation of new water pipes replacing those installed 50 years ago and other related works are being speeded up, he said.

Menasie Kifle, general manager of Rashid Citrus International Company, said that the company is promoting new water treatment chemical that would prevent water borne diseases.
