Ethiopia: State secures over 147 mln birr from tourism
Bahir Dar — The Amhara state tourism bureau announced that over 147 million birr has been secured from local and foreigh tourists who visited various attractions in the state over the past nine months.
Bureau tourism promotion officer, Izana Shimelis told WIC that the stated sum of revenue was secured from 147,342 foreign and local tourists who visited tourist attractions in the state. Ancient castles, mountains, national parks, monasteries, the Tiss Abay waterfall were among the attractions meet by the tourists. Of the tourists visited the tourist attractions over 90,650 were foreigners, according to the officer. The performance registered in the past nine months has shown a 100 percent increase from the initial target and a three fold progress from that of same time last year. Moreover, the number of tourists came to the tourist attractions has shown a 27 percent increase against that of same time the past year, he added.
Implementation of the Business Process Re-Engineering (BPR) and installation of infrastructure facilities at tourist attraction sites have contributed for the better performance scored in the stated period.
