Ethiopia: Ministry organizes training on public procurement

Addis Ababa, -Intensive training on public procurement and resource management organized for employees of various government institutions was opened here on Monday.
The training was organized by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED), responsible for annual allocation among government institutions.

While inaugurating the training, finance sector state minister with MoFED, Alemayehu Gujjo said the main aim of the training was to enable government personnel carry out effective public procurement and resource management.

The state minister said standardizing the service sector and satisfying the growing need of customers through enhancing capacity of government employees are some of development priorities of the government.

Maximizing customers’ satisfaction through proper implementation of public procurement and resource management system would help the nation ensure good governance, he added.

Ethiopia needs to establish standardized public procurement and resource management arrangement to cope with various international and regional organizations such as the World Bank, African Development Bank, and COMESA, he urged.

According to him, Ethiopia also needs to ensure equality between the cost spent on public procurement and the benefit obtained from the public procurement.

Strong action is needed to improve the system and make it economic-efficient, he added.

The six-day meeting attracts 133 experts from 44 federal institutions.
