Ethiopia: Business Magnate Ventures into Hospitality Industry
Getu Gelete, owner of multiple business conglomerates in town, has now entered the hospitality business with the construction of a new hotel apartment.
The eight-storey building taking shape right next to Saay Pastry on Africa Avenue (Bole Road) in Addis Abeba will become a guest house.
The construction of the hotel apartment, which is estimated to cost between 45 million Br to 50 million Br began two weeks ago; Bamako Plc, a private consultancy firm, has been paid 2.6 million Br to supervise the construction of the guest house, which is being undertaken by his company, Get-AS International Trading. The project is expected to be finalised in the coming year, according to Adunia Bekele, general manager of the project.
Of the 1,100Sqm land Get-AS plans to use for the guest house facility, the building under construction will consume 800Sqm.
The hotel apartment is intended to include bedrooms, gymnasium facilities, restaurants, conference halls, and a large parking lot.
Get-AS International P.L.C. was established in 1994. It is one of the biggest import firms with business ties with exporters and industrialists in Europe and Far East countries. It was founded and is managed by Getu Gelete, who has more than 30 years of business experience.
The company has been expanding its business horizons to become involved in different areas. The umbrella company has five holding companies – Dugda Agro Industry is engaged in the production, distribution and export of agricultural products; Get Yan manufactures safety matches; GG Real Estate runs buildings in the capital, including the one that houses St. Mary’s University College, behind the Wabishebelle Hotel near Mexico Square and the ten-storey Getu Commercial Centre of Africa Avenue near Olympia area; and Rising Sun Plc in Gerji area, which has a warehouse and a five-storey building that for nearly a decade housed the Faculty of Information Technology and Computational Science of the Unity University until last year; and Unity Business Group, which is engaged in business activities, such as transit and packing service and import export businesses.
