Ethiopia: Safe water project goes operational

S.Omo Zone, (Soddo) – Safe water project expanded in Sawla Town, South Ormo Zone of South Ethiopia Peoples’ State at a cost of over four million Birr has gone operational, town water service office said.

Office manager, Berede Bezabeh told ENA that the regional government allocated the budget while the public contributed support for expansion of the project.

The project includes, among others, digging of water well, construction of six water distribution centers and water reservoir with a capacity to hold 100,000 liters water, installation of water pumping machines and 8-km water pipelines, he said.

Safe water service coverage has grown to 80 per cent from the previous 32 per cent following expansion of the project.

More than 40,000 people live in Sawla.
