Ethiopia: University striving to build capacity of female students

Dire Dawa – The Haremoya University said it is working rigorously to upgrade capacity of first year female students coming to the university.

Academic and Research Vice President with the university, Dr. Tena Alamirew said the university is working to reduce the number of dropouts of first year female students.

Dr. Tena said the university is exerting utmost efforts through opening various educational programs that help build capacity of first year female students.

The university is facilitating various supports so that female students would become successful during their stay in the university, he said.

Gender bureau expert with the university, Rozina Ketsela on her part said that various trainings will be offered for female students so as to alleviate their socio-economic problems.

More than 300 female students who scored less result are being given training by outstanding students, she said.

She further said that the bureau is providing awareness raising trainings on HIV/AIDS to the students.

She finally said the university is undertaking preparations to build females’ training center on the premises of the university.
