Nekempt – Some 17 investors to be engaged in mine development with a registered capital of 500 million birr have been issued licenses in Oromia State, the State’s Mines and Energy Resource Development Agency said.

Speaking at the end of a relevant training organized for experts in Nekempte town, Agency General Manager, Terefe Gebreselassie said that the investors have plans to develop mines such as lime.

Some of the investors have already begun production. They created 4,000 jobs, he said.

The main objective of the training was to enhance the capacity of skilled workers in the mines sector so that the sector would contribute its share in the country’s development, he said. Over 200 experts have attended the training.

The director said the agency has managed to engage over 69,000 youth in various mine development works during the current Ethiopian year.

The agency has plans to carry out survey on 4,000-km3, to issue investment license for over 1000 investors, and to create jobs for over 100,000 youth, the director added.
