Ethiopia: Standing Committee visits Gondar University

Addis Ababa -Public Accounts Standing Committee of the House of People's Representatives said Gonder University in Amhara State needs to improve budget utilization and property management.

The committee made the remark during a visit to the university

Committee vice chairperson, Dagne Shibru told ENA that gaps are identified though the university has been taking corrective measures as per the reports of the Auditor General .

Dagne said effort made by the university towards proper management and utilization of property is unsatisfactory.

The vice chairperson said some 10 million birr of the total budget allocated for the university has not been utilized in the last two years.

He said the committee the university should carry out procurement in line with the public accounts.

As the university is responsible to produce skilled humanpower it needs to employ new improved working procedures, he said.

Academic research vice president with the university, Professor Tefera Abulla on his part said the university would soon react to the constructive comment given by the committee.
