Ethiopia: Health extension programs benefiting over 400,000 people
Dessie – Over 400,000 people residing in rural areas of south Wollo zone of Amhara state are benefiting from the health extension program carried out over the past nine months, zone Health department disclosed.
Department deputy head, Leulseged Nigusse told WIC that the program was executed in 19 rural woredas of the zone.
He said women, children, youth, elders as well as peoples with disability are among beneficiaries of the program. He also said the program was effectively implemented by 115,833 family heads who successfully executed 16 health extension packages.
Some 961 health extension experts and 67 supervisors have made technical and professional support to rural community to enable the latter benefit from the health extension program, he indicated.
The package was focused on children and maternal health, prevention of communicable diseases, hygiene and environmental protection, health service and provision of health related education, he noted.
The implementation of the health extension package has enabled the community effectively prevent and control communicable diseases, utilize family planning and improve production, he added.
The program has also contributed for the creation of healthy rural community, it was leant.
