Malaysia to host international anti-piracy conference
Malaysia will host an international conference on piracy and crimes at sea on May 18-19 here.
Maritime security experts and officials from more than 40 countries, including Somalia, Britain, the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Denmark and Sweden, will attend the two-day event, according to the Malaysian Foreign Ministry.
Representatives from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the European Union, the United Nations, and the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners also will take part in the conference.
IMO’s deputy director Nicolaos Charalambous, and Nur Mohamed Mohamoud, deputy director of Somalia’s National Security Agency, will be among the participants to the conference.
The conference will cover topics such as the overview of global piracy situation, the legal and judicial framework, and comparative studies of regional best practices in combating piracy.
