Ethiopia: Ethiopia marks World Family Day

Addis Ababa) – State minister of labour and social affairs Remedan Ashenafi said all citizens should actively participate in the efforts to strengthen democratic system at family level with a view to realizing renaissance of the country.

Remedan was speaking here on Friday at a discussion organized in connection with this year’s World Family Day.

The Day is marked for the 5th time in Ethiopia and for the 15th time at the international level .

This year’s World Family Day is observed under the theme “Mothers and Families: Challenges in a Changing World”.

The main objective of marking the day is to create awareness among states and private institutions to provide the necessary assistance to families at local and international level.

The minister said the government has given primary attention to issues related to marriage, private and family rights enshrined under article 34 of the constitution.

He said some of the measures taken by the government to protect families and communities and ensure gender equality include, among others, the law issued for family relation. Amended federal and regional family laws are some of the measures taken by the government.

The minister on the occasion called on all sides to work together more than ever to curb challenges of families
