Ethiopia: Preparations underway to implement urban health extension program

Addis Ababa) -Preparations are underway to implement a house-to-house urban health extension program to curb health related problems in urban areas, the ministry of health said.

Director, Urban Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate, Dr. Negist Tesfaye told journalists on Friday that the program, executed successfully in rural localities, will be expanded to urban parts of the country.

Dr Negist said the program is aimed at promoting health and distributing fair disease prevention service to residents.

She called on institutions engaged in the health sector , development partners , the public and mass media to contribute share towards success of the house-to-house program .

Training of Trainers will be launched as of next Monday, she said

Dr. Keseteberhan Admasu, Director General, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention General Directorate on his part said eight health extension professionals will be deployed to every locality. A health extension professional will provide service to 500 families, schools and youth extension centers.

The program will be implemented in collaboration with the health bureau and administration of Addis Ababa City.
