Ethiopia: Nation earns over 1bln USD from export trade
Addis Ababa – The Ministry of Trade and Industry said the country has earned over one billion USD from export trade in the past nine months.
Information and public relations office head with the ministry, Hailu Abebe told WIC that the sum was obtained from the export of various agricultural and other products.
Coffee, agricultural products, meat, live animals, cut flowers, were among the major export items Ethiopia supplied to the international market, the head said.
Europe, Asia, North America, Africa and Far Eastern countries were among the export destinations, while China, the Netherlands, Germany and Saudi Arabia were the major importers of Ethiopian products, he indicated.
The income obtained from the sector is growing from time to time, the head said, adding that the sum obtained in the stated period showed an over 1.6 million USD increase against that of same time last year.
According to the head, the growth in the export trade amid the global financial crisis is a reflection that the country’s economy is growing well.
The proper attention the government has attached to the export and the ever increasing participation of the private sector has contributed to the development of the sector, he indicated.
