Ethiopia: Slovak film concludes festival

The screening of various films in different parts of the city in line with the Europe Day celebrations came to an end last Friday.
The series of events were held at the Sidist Kilo University’s Cultural Center and Alliance Ethio-Francaise.
This year’s event, which also included Ethiopian made films that competed for the top prize, concluded with the screening of High Tatras – A wilderness frozen in time, a Slovak documentary film at the Addis Ababa University’s centre.
Slovak films have dominated this year’s event. Other films shown, include: Omo – A journey to the primeval age, the medium length Menged produced by Daniel Taye and won in the Berlinale film festival in 2007, Sashird Lao Jazz concert, 118 days in the captivity of ice, The metamorphoses of Tatras, 80 metres below the summit and, at last, High Tatras – A wilderness frozen in time were screened.
In addition to the screening of the movies, an “EU comes to your school” program where EU ambassadors visited local and international schools was held. German school, Bole high school, Black Lion High school, Lycee G/Mariam High school, ICS school, Italian school, Menelik High school, Sandford school and General Wingate College have been visited by the ambassadors, in chronological order.
Capital learnt that award presentation for the best Ethiopian films and for the ’27 Capitals of European Union’ painting contest will be held on May 29, 2009 at the Alliance Ethio- Francaise.
