A car accident on the highway just out of Adama town of Oromia Regional State blocked the highway for about 19 hours mid last week.

The accident occurred on the sloppy road located between Kidanemihret Church and Nazareth Orphanage Organization on Wednesday May 13, 2009 at 4:00pm. It involved a minibus and a truck with a trailer that blocked the road until 11:00am the next day.

The crash resulted in the death of one person among the commuters in the minibus; two people were seriously injured and four suffered minor injuries, including the driver. The vehicles involved were a minibus with license plate number OR (Oromia) 3-14793, which was towards Addis Abeba from Adama, and a Euro-Tech, an IVECO made heavy truck, which was going to Adama from Addis Abeba, with a plate number ET (Ethiopia) 3-322227 and light trailer of license plate number ET 3-10964.

The trailer, which had twisted as a result of the impact, almost covered the entire width of the road, therefore obstructing the traffic flow and also forcing vehicles to spend more time on the highway till its removal the next morning.

With the fear of another accident pressing the traffic police department in Adama hard, its members rushed to the scene to attempt to reduce the traffic jam on the road.

The Addis Abeba-Adama highway is one of the roads in Ethiopia with the highest number of traffic accidents.
