Ethiopia: Ethiopia, Sudan ink agreement to enhance diplomatic relations
Addis Ababa – Ethiopia and Sudan inked agreement here on Tuesday to further enhance their diplomatic relations at bilateral, regional and international levels.
The agreement was signed by Ethiopia’s foreign affairs minister Seyoum Mesfin and Sudan’s foreign affairs state minister, Elsammani El Wasila.
The two countries have agreed for the adherence and implementation of the three-year general plan and the annual action plan of the first Ethio-Sudan political committee meeting, according to a joint communiqué issued after the agreement.
Ethiopia and Sudan have once again rejected the warrant statement issued by the International Criminal Court against President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, saying “the warrant does not serve the interest of peace and stability in the Sudan and in the sub-region.”
The communiqué said the Sudan expressed its appreciation for the position taken by the government of Ethiopia against the Court.
The two sides have also agreed to continue their existing bilateral relations in a way it would maximize the benefits of their people.
The Sudan will host the second Ethio-Sudan political committee meeting in Khartoum in December, 2009, according to the communiqué.
