Ethiopia: Close to 44,000 students benefiting from school-feeding program

Hawassa – The SNNP State education bureau announced that close to 44,000 students are pursuing education in the state under a school feeding program this budget year.

Education development, planning, supervision and evaluation work process expert, Lulseged Yimer, told WIC that the program is being carried out in 90 schools situated in drought-prone woreds of the state.

He said the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) allocated more than 531 metric tons of nutritious food for the execution of the program.

The school feeding program WFP is undertaking in 13 drought-prone woredas of the state is significantly contributing in improving the education coverage in the state, he added.

More than half of the students embraced under the program were females.
