Ethiopia: Senior medical professionals say BPR enhancing service provision capacity

Addis Ababa – The business process re-engineering (BPR) being implemented at hospitals in the metropolis is bearing fruit in enhancing emergency service provision capacity of hospitals, senior medical professionals said.

Medical professionals the from Black Lion Specialized Hospital, Yekatit 12 Hospital and the Ministry of Health (MoH) made the above remark at a consultative forum organized by the MoH under the theme “Making hospital facilities safe in emergencies.”

Emergency department coordinator at the Black Lion Specialized Hospital, Dr Aklilu Azaje on the occasion said his department was able to provide effective service following the implementation of BPR since last August.

General surgeon at Yekatit 12 Hospital, Dr. Adane Haile on his part said the emergency department set up following the implementation of BPR helped the department offered service for 20,000 patients in six months alone, which surpasses from the set target by 16,000 patients.

Representative from the MoH Dr. Abrham Endashah on his part said that the ministry is undertaking various activities with a view to providing efficient and sustainable emergency services to clients.

Participants of the forum urged hospitals to create integration among themselves, provide ambulances and medical equipment as well as professionals.

Public relations directorate director with the MoH, Ahmed Imano on his part said that hospitals are providing efficient emergency services following the introduction of BPR.

Participants drawn from the MoH, hospitals, higher learning institutions and pertinent bodies took part at the consultative forum.
