Ethiopia: Ethiopia, Japan ink 6.2 mln USD grant agreement
Addis Ababa – The governments of Japan and Ethiopia today signed a grant agreement amounting 6.2 million USD for the implementation of the program for the construction of primary and secondary schools in Addis Ababa.
Kinichi Komano, ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia and Ahmed Shide, State Minister of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED) signed the grant agreement.
Speaking on the occasion, Ahmed said the financial assistance will help build nine primary and one secondary school in the metropolis.
He said several Ethiopians are benefiting from the development endeavors the Japanese government is executing in Ethiopia.
He further said the financial assistance will further strengthen the long standing bilateral relations of the two countries.
Ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia, Kinichi Komano on his part said the construction of the schools would contribute to the efforts the government of Ethiopia is making to promote quality education and expand access to education.
The construction of 36 primary schools is well underway in Oromia state through Japanese financial assistance, he recalled.
Ambassador Komano stated that Japan will continue its support to the development of the education sector.
