Addis Ababa -State Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Dr. Aberra Deressa said investors with nearly 50 billion Birr capital have been engaged in the agriculture sector.

Dr. Aberra told ENA that the number of investment projects in the sector had reached to nearly 3,000 last year from only eight in 1984 E.C.

The minister made the statement in connection with the 18th anniversary of the victory of May 28.

He said the amount of investment capital has also reached 50 billion Birr last year from 25 million Birr 17 years before.

Dr. Aberra said the investment projects have created permanent and temporary jobs for more than 196,000 citizens.

The growth registered in the agriculture investment sector resulted from appropriate measures taken by the government and sound strategies and policies put in place, he said.

Dr. Aberra said a lot is expected to be done to further increase the number of investors and the amount of investment capital in the sector.
